LIGHT THERAPY

In the treatment of age-related macular degeneration

INFORMATION ABOUT LIGHT THERAPY

Recent studies have shown that treatment with light therapy (photobiomodulation), combined with dietary supplements (omega 3, gingko biloba, etc.), can delay the onset of serious visual problems caused by AMD (age-related macular degeneration).

TREATMENT

These treatments revitalise the cells of the retina so that they maintain sufficient function for as long as possible.

The device used for light therapy, Valeda, uses three different wavelengths, which stimulate the mitochondria, the energy centre of cells. Valeda has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the United States.

ORGANISATION OF SESSIONS

The treatment lasts for 3 weeks, with 3 sessions per week (9 sessions in total).

Sessions always take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, at fixed times agreed with you. Each session lasts approximately 15 minutes and is carried out by an assistant.

You can function normally after the sessions (driving, etc.). Some patients experience a feeling of dazzlement that can last for 10 to 15 minutes, but there are no other side effects reported if the protocol is followed.

After treatment, you will have two appointments with the doctor: one within two weeks of the last session, then a final check-up appointment approximately two months later.
